大学等の各授業科目において、当該授業科目を担当する教員の補助的業務を行う者。授業科目を担当する教員の指導計画に基づき、授業の一部を担うことも可能とされている。ティーチング・アシスタント（TA）等の教育補助者は「指導補助者」として位置づけられる。指導補助者に対して必要な研修を行うことが義務付けられている。機構が定める認証評価の基準では、大学等に対し、指導補助者の配置について分析するとともに、指導補助者の研修の実施等により、これらの者の質を維持し、向上させるための組織的な取組みを求めている。

Personnel who assume assisting roles in the teaching of subjects by the respective supervising teachers. They may teach part of the subject in accordance with the teacher’s instruction plan. Teaching assistants (TAs) are a type of assistant instructor. Universities and colleges are obliged to provide assistant instructors with training. The standards for certified evaluation and accreditation prescribed by NIAD-QE require universities and colleges to not only monitor the deployment of assistant instructors, but also systematically maintain and improve the quality of assistant instructors through training sessions and other opportunities for professional development.
