教育的配慮の下に、大学院学生等を大学等が行う研究プロジェクト等に研究補助者として参画させ、研究遂行能力の育成、研究体制の充実を図るとともに、これに対する手当の支給により、大学院学生の処遇の改善の一助とすることを目的とした制度。

A system to enhance the research and cultivate postgraduate students’ ability to undertake research by having them participate as research assistants in research projects undertaken by universities and colleges, and also to help improve their financial circumstances by paying them an allowance for doing so.
