多様なメディアを高度に利用して、文字、音声、静止画、動画等の多様な情報を一体的に扱う授業。面接授業に相当する教育効果を有することが期待されている。同時双方向型とオンデマンド型がある。外国を含め、教員が授業を行う教室等以外の場所で履修させることができる。例えば大学（学士課程）の卒業要件単位数の中で、メディア授業によって修得する単位数は60単位を超えないものとしているが、例外的な対応が許容される傾向にある。

Classes delivered by a range of diverse, generally digital media integrating diverse forms of information, including text, audio, photos and video. This form of digital teaching is expected to yields a learning experience equivalent to face-to-face classes either through simultaneous interactive teaching and on-demand lessons. Universities (undergraduate programs) are allowed to arrange so that students can take classes at places other than the classrooms, on condition that the credits thus earned may not exceed sixty though discretionary responses are being allowed for.
