短期大学 Junior College
大学のうち、深く専門の学芸を教授研究し、職業又は実際生活に必要な能力を育成することを主な目的とする高等教育機関。入学資格は、大学（学士課程）と同様である。卒業要件は、２年制の場合２年以上在学し62単位以上、３年制の場合は３年以上在学し93単位以上をそれぞれ修得することを原則とし、各短期大学が定めるとされている。卒業すると短期大学士の学位（2005年以前は、準学士の称号）を得ることができる。
Junior College 短期大学
A higher education institution whose purpose is to devote itself to a specific field of learning and to develop abilities necessary for an occupation or practical skill. The eligibility for admission is the same as those of the universities (undergraduate programs).
The graduation requirement for junior college, the specification of which is mandated to each institution, is generally enrollment for at least two years with no less than 62 credits earned in the case of two-year programs, while enrollment for at least three years with no less than 93 credits earned in the case of three-year programs. Students who graduate may be awarded an associate degree (prior to 2005, they were awarded the academic title of associate).
