機構が独自に行う第三者評価として、大学等の求めに応じて教育活動以外の側面について評価する仕組み。主に、大学等が設定した目的の達成状況について評価を行う。大学は、「研究活動の状況」、「地域貢献活動の状況」、「教育の国際化の状況」の３つの機関別選択評価を受けることができる。高等専門学校については、「研究活動の状況」、「正規課程の学生以外に対する教育サービスの状況」の２つを選択評価事項として定め、認証評価実施時にこれらの事項に関する評価を受けることができる。

A third-party evaluation by NIAD-QE at the request of universities and colleges concerning aspects other than educational activities conducted by universities. It mainly evaluates whether the university or college is achieving the objectives that it has set itself. Universities may choose to undergo institutional thematic assessment focused on the following three themes: research activities, community engagement and internationalization of higher education. Colleges of technology may optionally apply for the evaluation in terms of research activities and community outreach as well.
