ギャップイヤー(ギャップターム) Gap Year (Gap Term)
学生が高等学校を卒業し大学へ入学する前までに生じる一定の空白期間を指す。海外では、ギャップイヤーの時期を入学前に限定することなく、在学中や卒業し就職する前に取得するなど、学生の選択により多様な時期に行われている。日本では、通常、４月の学年暦開始に合わせ、入学許可は３月までに学生に通知されるが、秋入学制度を導入する場合、約半年間の空白期間が生じることになり、これをギャップイヤーと称している。
Gap Year (Gap Term) ギャップイヤー(ギャップターム)
A period of time, or study break between graduating from high school and entering university. Outside Japan, a student gap year is not limited to the period before enrollment and students may choose to take a break at various other times, such as during their time at university or between graduation and entering employment. In Japan, gap year would usually mean the half-year period between April and the enrollment in autumn.
