・「博士」の修了要件として修業年限や必修単位数等に加え、必要な研究指導を受けた上、博士論文の審査及び試験への合格が必要となる。
・NIAD-QEは、日本の大学以外の教育施設に置かれた課程（各省庁大学校）のうち、博士課程に相当する水準の教育を行っていると機構が認定した課程の修了者に博士の学位を授与している。 |
Doctoral degree [Hakushi]

・There are two types of doctoral degree programs: five-year integrated ones and those divided into two—the first two-year master’s level and the second three-year doctoral level.
・In addition to the required years of study and credit hours for completing the doctoral degree program, students must have received the necessary research guidance and passed the dissertation defense and an examination.
・NIAD-QE awards doctoral degrees to those who have completed courses at educational institutions other than Japanese universities (all educational institutions operated by government ministries and agencies) that has been certified by NIAD-QE as providing education at a level equivalent to a doctoral course.

・授与機関：大学及び独立行政法人大学改革支援・学位授与機構（NIAD-QE）
・修士課程においては、主として実務の経験を有する者に対して教育を行う等の所定の条件を満たす場合、標準修業年限を1年以上2年未満とすることができる（大学院設置基準第3条第3項）。この場合の修了要件（在学年数）は、当該標準修業年限以上の在学となる。
・大学が授与する修士の学位は、修士課程若しくは博士前期課程の修了者又は5年一貫制博士課程のうち修士課程の修了要件を満たした者に対して授与される。なお、修了要件として修業年限や必修単位数等に加え、必要な研究指導を受けた上、修士論文又は特定の課題についての研究成果の審査及び試験への合格が必要となる。
・NIAD-QEは、わが国の大学以外の教育施設に置かれた課程（各省庁大学校）のうち、修士課程に相当する水準の教育を行っていると機構が認定した課程の修了者に修士の学位を授与している。

Master’s degree [Shushi]
・Awarding institutions: Universities and the National Institution for Academic Degrees and Quality Enhancement of Higher Education (NIAD-QE)
・ In the master’s degree programs, the standard program duration may be set at one year or more but less than two if certain conditions are met, primarily providing education to those with practical experience (Standards for the Establishment of Graduate Schools, Paragraph 3 Article 3). In such cases, the completion requirements (years of study) shall be equal to or greater than the applicable standard program duration.
・Master’s degrees by universities are awarded to those who have completed a master’s course, those who have completed the first (two-year master’s) level of a doctoral degree program, or those who have met the conditions to complete a master’s program as part of an integrated doctoral degree program. Moreover, in addition to the master’s degree completion requirements (years of study and credit hours), students must have received the necessary research guidance and passed the dissertation defense and examination on the master’s thesis or research project on a specific topic.
・NIAD-QE awards master’s degrees to those who have completed courses at educational institutions other than Japanese universities (all educational institutions operated by government ministries and agencies) that has been certified by NIAD-QE as providing education at a level equivalent to a master’s course.

・医学・歯学・薬学・獣医学に係る6年制の学部を卒業したことのみをもって、これを修士課程相当とし、博士後期課程（3年制）の入学資格が認められるわけではない。ただし、医学系学部(6年制)から区分制の博士後期課程(3年制)への入学については、受入れ機関の個別入学資格審査(学校教育法施行規則第156条第5号)にて対応可能となる場合がある。
・医学・歯学・薬学・獣医学に係る6年制学部の卒業者には医学・歯学、薬学・獣医学に係る4年制博士課程への入学資格が与えられる。 |
Bachelor’s degree (Medical, Dentistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences (Clinical), and Veterinary Medical Science) [Gakushi (Igaku, Shigaku, Yakugaku (Rinsho Mokuteki), Juigaku)]
・Awarding institutions: Universities
・Completing a six-year bachelor’s program in medicine, dentistry, pharmaceutical sciences (clinical), or veterinary medical science alone cannot be considered as equivalent to a master’s degree, that it is not necessarily a sufficient qualification for admission to the second (three-year) level of a doctoral degree program. However, admission from such a medical faculty (six-year system) to a separate doctoral course (three-year system) may be possible through an examination of individual admission qualifications (Article 156, Item 5 of the Enforcement Regulations of the School Education Act) by the accepting institution.
・Graduates of the six-year undergraduate programs in medicine, dentistry, pharmaceutical sciences (clinical), and veterinary medical science are eligible for admission to four-year doctoral degree programs in medicine, dentistry, pharmaceutical sciences (clinical), and veterinary medical science.

2)Those who have completed courses at educational institutions other than Japanese universities (all educational institutions operated by government ministries and agencies) that has been certified by NIAD-QE as providing education at a level that is equivalent to a bachelor’s degree program.

・A student who has completed a Post-Secondary Course designated by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology and fulfills the prescribed requirements (four or more years of study, 3,400 or more class hours or over 124 credits, etc.) is eligible to enroll in a master’s course. In addition to these requirements, graduates of courses certified by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology will be granted an Advanced Diploma.

・Those who have completed a Post-Secondary Course at a Specialized Training College and fulfill the prescribed requirements (e.g., two or more years of study, 1,700 or more class hours or 62 or more credits) are eligible to transfer to a university undergraduate program. In addition to these requirements, those who have completed a course recognized by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology shall be granted a Diploma.

・The Lower Secondary School Equivalency Examination is conducted by the national government to determine whether or not a student, who has been suspended or exempted from attending schools for compulsory education by his/her guardian for unavoidable reasons such as illness, has the academic ability to graduate from lower secondary school, pursuant to the provision of Article 18 of the School Education Act. Successful candidates are awarded a certificate declaring they have passed the exam and are eligible for admission to upper secondary school.
